We’ve been jonesing for a great new movie, and the early buzz on ‘In the Loop,’ definitely piqued our attention. Then we saw on the (totally awesome) IFC blog that The New York Times’ A.O. Scott called the film, “genius” and we immediately pushed the film to the top of our shortlist. A fast-paced satire skewering modern Anglo-American political relations, ‘In the Loop’ is director Armando Iannucci’s adaptation of the British TV series, ‘The Thick of It’. Though we’ve been down on remakes lately, this one may make us rethink the position.
The fast-talking film starts when a bumbling British statesman makes a misstatement in a press conference, and it all snowballs into the run-up to an all-out war in the Middle East, thanks, in part, to American hawks, like James Gandolfini’s General Miller. Sound familiar?
If you’re in New York this weekend, head by the IFC Center, where cast members Zach Woods (Upright Citizens Brigade touring company) and David Rasche (‘United 93‘) will be on hand to chat Friday and Saturday at 7:35 and 9:55.
While you’re loading up on popcorn and sugar at the concession stand, keep an eye out for the Museyon display. Our Film + Travel books are on display (and for sale), so you can take a bit of film home with you.
