Tonight Museyon celebrates the launch of Music+Travel Worldwide with two of our friends from Beijing. Here’s a sneak peek at what to expect from Xiao He and Jeff Zhang Shouwang.
Since the late ’90s, Xiao He has been a pioneering force in the Beijing underground first as a member of the experimental rock band Glorious Pharmacy. Today he mostly perform his solo act of “Free Folk”, a blend of folk and improvisation that combines the traditional sounds of Mongolia and western China with minimalist and avant-garde traditions.
Shou Wang (aka Jeff Zhang) is one of the biggest names in Beijing’s new music scene today, and the frontman of the wildly popular Carsick Cars, a group he started in college after falling in love with the Velvet Underground.
And like many of his contemporaries, Shou Wang is involved in multiple projects — including the experimental rock duo White, which recently recorded with Blixa Bargeld, founder of German industrial pioneers Einsturzende Neubauten.
