“Simpsons” Creator Proves Indie Cred Again at England’s All Tomorrow’s Parties

It’s a little-known secret that the man who brought us “The Simpsons” and “Life in Hell” has a taste in music to match his facility with humor. For the second time, Matt Groenig (in self caricature above, top right) is curating the English edition of the constantly changing music festival All Tomorrow’s Parties and demonstrating that he may have the best ear in the cartoon biz. Headliners this year at the Somerset bash include current buzz band, The XX (above, bottom right), freak folkers Coco Rosie (above, bottom left), Deerhunter, Panda Bear, Juana Molina, and others. Groenig’s grasp on acts from the past might even be better than his up-to-the-moment picks. Classic bands in attendance include Iggy and the Stooges, Shonen Knife, Built to Spill, The Residents, The Boredoms, and The Raincoats. On top of all that, Spiritualized (above, upper left) will be playing their much-beloved album “Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space” in it’s entirety. We just can’t help falling in love with this lineup.
