You may know Ronnie Wood from his legendary bands The Birds, The Jeff Beck Group, The Small Faces and of course The Rolling Stones but few actually know that Wood is a consummate painter. In fact, Wood has been wielding a paintbrush longer than he’s been wielding a guitar, ever since he was twelve. When Wood was a child, his drawings were even featured on the BBC television programme Sketch Club where he won one of that programme’s competitions, an achievement he refers to as his “awakening to art.”
Woods went on to attend the Ealing Art College in London and his art has been exhibited around the world though never in the US, until this September. Beginning September 21st through November 21st, the The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio will be presenting ‘Ronnie Wood: Paintings, Drawings and Prints,’ as retrospective a part of their ongoing Influence on America Program.
