On May 18th, 1980, a great light went out when musician, lead singer of Joy Division, Ian Curtis took his own life. Curtis suffered from epilepsy and was in a constant struggle against depression and with his death he both killed what his band could have become and created one of the most legendary groups in rock history.
To commemorate the life of his former band mate, Joy Division co-founder, New Order bassist, Peter Hook will be playing Unknown Pleasures, Joy Division’s debut album, in its entirety at his new venue, FAC251 Club in Manchester tonight. Dazed Digital spoke with Hook regarding Curtis and the lasting impact his death had.
