Located on New York’s Lower East Side, in what was quite obviously a Piano store, is one of the city’s most enduring music venues- Pianos. Keeping the old Piano showroom sign up over the door is one of many reasons to love this venue that has been showcasing an eclectic variety of music, comedy, karaoke and sometimes film for years. There aren’t many bands who have gone on to make it big in New York who can say that they haven’t at one time played the stage at Pianos.
Pianos consists of an upper stage in a lounge like setting and a lower stage, tucked in a back room, past the expansive front bar. The downstairs stage usually has a cover under $10 but the upper stage will often be free. The scene at Pianos on a weekend night can get very crowded; for an upbeat atmosphere without the crush, hit-up their happy hour until 7pm. They even have a happy hour food menu.
And for those heading to CMJ, Pianos is the unofficial heart of the Music Marathon where during the day, all shows are free.
