Museyon’s Guide to…Musica dei Popoli

Musica dei Popoli means music of the people in Italian and every year, for the past 30 years, this music festival has striven to bring folk music from around the world to Florence, into a culture that can be quite insular.
 
Hosted by the Florentine Center for Folk Traditions, this festival is one of the most popular on the city’s calendar and has become a significant part of the cultural history of Florence and Tuscany. The festival events consist of performances ranging from Klezmer to traditional Japanese music and have yearly themes. The theme for 2010 is “Music of the Migrants.”
 
The main performances occur at Auditorium Flog, Via M. Mercati throughout the month of October with countries as far as Argentina represented. For the full schedule, see below
