The now annual Sasquatch! Music Festival is set to take place May 29th- 31st, or Memorial Day Weekend, once again this year and has brought a line-up worthy of a plane ticket to the Pacific Northwest. But this nine time winner of Pollstar Magazine’s award for Best Outdoor Music Venue isn’t like any other festival, here’s what you need to know.
Much of what you need to bring to Sasquatch! is the same as every other festival, sunscreen, sunglasses, earplugs, sealed water bottles, but Sasquatch! has the added bonus of being located in one of the rainiest and windiest spots in Washington state. In addition to packing for the sun, you’ll need to prepare yourself for some potentially harsh conditions as rain falls here without notice and the winds are known to blow many a camper’s tents across the fields. Though this isn’t Glastonbury and rubber boots aren’t (usually) necessary, having a waterproof backpack, a rain poncho and some extra layers of clothing will save you a lot of discomfort. For those camping, remember to bring a tarp for the ground and sturdy stakes for your tent.
This year’s headliners are My Morning Jacket, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Ween, MGMT and Massive Attack. Other notables are She & Him, The Mountain Goats, The New Pornographers, Camera Obscura, Tegan and Sara and Broken Social Scene. In fact, most of the bands on the Sasquatch! roster this year are notable and include many new buzzworthy indies. For a complete listing with some suggestions on which stages to stake out, head to Consequence of Sound. For those looking to take a break from music, Sasquatch! also has a comedy stage called Rumpus with Anziz Ansari, Nick Kroll and Patton Oswalt amongst other.
Sasquatch! takes place at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington, near the Columbia River (Google Map). Tickets are SOLD OUT but call the day of the festival and you might get lucky. Camping spots are priced at $99 while “premier” camping is $170.
