Museyon’s Guide to…Bowlie 2

Bowlie 2

In 1999, Belle and Sebastian curated the first Bowlie Festival. That festival became the inspiration for All Tomorrow’s Parties, which in turn became an festival with outposts in multiple countries around the world. Now, 11 years later, Belle and Sebastian are back, once more curating Bowlie, taking place at Butlin’s- a family weekend resort in the southwest of England.

The festival will include 80s comebacks The Vaselines, The Zombies and many of Belle and Sebastian’s Scottish countrymen, like Frightened Rabbit, Teenage Fanclub and Isobel Campell. The event runs from Friday afternoon, December 10th to Monday morning, December 13th. All tickets for Bowlie include accommodation at Butlins, with no day passes being sold, but that is half the fun. Not only does the event provide performances from dozens of bands, it also includes onsite facilities such as a cinema (with films picked by the curators), ten-pin bowling, amusement arcade, sports (archery, football, basketball, darts, petanque, fencing, kwik cricket, netball, rounders, table tennis, outdoor bowls and crazy golf) and Splash Water world.

Usually bands begin around 4pm or 5pm on the Friday. A full schedule of times will be posted up on the site nearer to the time. Music usually finishes at around 3am on Monday morning with DJs continuing until around 5am.

Accommodation:
Festival goers have their choice of 1, 2 or 3 bed guest rooms, all with private bathroom (bath or shower) and TV and can choose to either buy the catered or non-catered option. The non-catered option coms with access to a kitchen. Note that all bedding is provided but not towels.
