The Tribeca Film Festival — Robert De Niro’s New York-centric celebration of film — is headed to the Middle East, to Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The festival will kick-off its inagural season with a screening of ‘Amelia,’ director Mira Nair’s biopic of the pilot Amelia Earhart, starring Hilary Swank.
Helmed by Al Jazeera entertainment reporter Amanda Palmer, the DTFF runs from October 29 through November 1, and features 33 films, including 12 films with roots in the Middle East. Events are centered on the I.M. Pei-designed Museum of Islamic Art, including an outdoor screening of the 1969 Egyptian classic,“The Mummy (Al-Momia).” Check out the entire program, and see more behind-the-scenes video on the festival’s website.
Worried that you can’t make it to the Gulf? Fear not, the Tribeca edition of the festival is back in New York from April 21 to May 2, 2010.
