News: McDonalds + Cupcakes?

We’re not sure if this is a ploy to get German McDonald’s customers excited about the new Sex and the City movie or an attempt to bank on a secret rabid fandom German McDonald’s customers have for the fabulous New York foursome. Either way, it’s kind of creepy.
 
German McDonalds are now serving up four types of cupcakes: chocolate, strawberry, cappuccino and vanilla. Regretably, the fast food giant has not named them after Sex and the City characters but rather neighborhoods in New York: Chelsea, Central Park (we guess they assume Germans won’t know that’s not a neighborhood), East Village and SoHo. Apparently after Sex and the City’s trip to Magnolia Bakery and its subsequent cupcake frenzy, New Yorkers have become synonymous with the confection, hence McDonald’s attempt at introducing a new trendy dessert. Don’t they know that cupcakes are so passe? It’s all about the macaroon!
