Biography
Tom Beer has written about film for Time Out New York and Newsday. His travel stories have appeared in Culture + Travel, 360, and on Frommers.com.
I love to go to the movies when I'm traveling abroad. One of my most memorable experiences was a showing of the Bollywood classic, Sholay, which I saw at a movie theater in New Delhi. The place was packed, and the audience talked, smoked, and snacked through the entire. Still, we were all transfixed by this musical melodrama of crime, revenge and redemption, responding (vocally) to everything that happened onscreen . It's the most communal moviegoing experience I've ever had.
