Biography
In addition to co-writing the script for an upcoming biopic about marathoner Abebe Bikila, Mikael Awake recently went to Ethiopia to help film the IDA award-winning documentary, A Walk to Beautiful, about women suffering from fistula. Awake is working on a screenplay about a travel agent who is afraid of flying.
I've been to Ethiopia several times, because many of my family members live there. But when I went there a few years ago to shoot a documentary at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, I saw a side of the country--the pain, the beauty, the quiet dignity--that were revelations to me.
