Furtado’s, a Western style music shop in the heart of Mumbai is not only the oldest purveyor or instruments in the southern part of the city, opening in 1865, it is also the only place in the country to buy a genuine Steinway piano.
 
A haven for music afficianados, stocking hundreds of instruments sprawled over two stores, you’ll find everything here from guitars to sitars to, oddly enough, a collection of Catholic statuettes. Furtado’s also hosts the occasional workshop and concert and recently, they launched a magazine aimed towards musicians and covering all music happenings around India called PLAY. In addition to selling instruments to burgeoning rock stars, they’ve also begun to help them gain recognition through Furtados Records, which creates complilations of up and coming bands to sell worldwide.
