Spotlight On: Jackson Pollock

A midwestern boy with a penchant for getting expelled from schools, Pollock moved to New York City in 1930 where along with his brother Charles, studied at the Art Students League of New York. In 1936, Pollock was introduced to the concept of liquid paint and thus began Pollock’s famous technique of laying out canvases on the floor in order to drip paint onto them above. It is from this process where we are thought to defined the term, ‘Action painting.’
