Big news from China’s emerging experimental music scene: For the first time ever, U.S. listeners have a chance to hear some of Beijing’s biggest names — live and in person. Record label Maybe Mars and rock club D-22 have teamed up to bring Carsick Cars, Xiao He and P.K.14 to the US shores for Maybe Mars Presents: A Showcase of the Chinese Underground.
P.K.14: “How Majestic Is The Night / 多麼美妙的夜晚” from Maybe Mars / 兵马司 on Vimeo.
From November 5 – 22, the artists will tour the East Coast, stopping in New York, Philadelphia, D.C., Pittsburg, Richmond, Va., and at Columbia University, SUNY Purchase, Colby College and UNC Chapel Hill. The tour kicks off with a show at Brooklyn’s PowerHouse Arena (37 Main St., Brooklyn; 718-666-3049) to celebrate the launch of Matthew Niederhauser’s new book, ‘Sound Kapital: Beijing’s Music Underground‘. The night before, get a sneak preview of the tour when Xiao He and Jeffray Zhang Shouwang (Carsick Cars/WHITE) stop by for a special appearance at the launch of Music + Travel Worldwide, sponsored by City Winery.
